The Academy of Osseointegration is the oldest and largest dental implant organization and they held their annual meeting in Orlando last weekend. Dr Edwards joined the AO, which traditionally was an organization of periodontists and oral surgeons, last year.
Dr Edwards’ former residency partner at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr. Peter Moy, was sworn in as the new president of the academy for the upcoming year. Dr. Moy has invited Dr Edwards to join a committee of hands-on workshops for next years meeting. The AO is looking to stimulate the growth of general dentists placing implants into the organization, as it is the future in dentistry.
The four day conference was at the Dolphin Resort at Disney. The president’s dinner was held in Epcot with a fancy dessert and coffee party set up lake side to see the beautiful fireworks. Dr Edwards made many new friends and was introduced to dentists from around the world, including Japan, Brazil, China and France. He also got to spend time with his implant mentor, Dr. Robert Miller from West Palm.
